Welcome to the Wedington Fire Department.

As of February 1, 2005, Wedington is rated as a Class 5 Fire Department.

Membership Fees: Your $125.00 membership fee is good for as long as you reside in our coverage area, even if you move within the area.  It is payable in six months.  Each residence by the same owner (even on the same property) requires a separate membership.  The $125.00 fee is waived on all residences after the first; however, the $50.00 dues are payable when the membership starts.  Memberships do not transfer when the property is sold.  The new owners must purchase a new membership in their name. 

Dues: The amount is determined by the membership at the annual meeting.   In 2007 dues were increased to $50.00.  Dues are payable the next February after joining.  Members are not charged for fire calls.

Telephone:  We have an answering machine for messages when no one is at the station.  Your call will be returned as soon as possible.

The more members that actively help, the better the Department will be.  Everyone you see at the Fire Station or at fires is a volunteer. They bought a membership and pay dues just like you.  Here are some of the things that need to be done to keep the Department going.  Maybe you can help.  It's a great way to make new friends and meet your neighbors.

Truck Maintenance: Once a week and after every fire call several persons perform routine maintenance.  Several of our members are professional mechanics and take care of more complicated repairs. 

Building Maintenance: Jobs are as simple as taking out the trash once a week or replacing light bulbs to as complicated as hanging a door or moving a wall.  The grass has to be mowed in the summer.

Firefighting: Who puts out fires?  Members who have volunteered as firefighters (both men and women). No one is paid for this; they simply believe in being good neighbors.  They receive training at our station 2 times a month.  Several have trained at the Arkansas State Fire Academy in Camden.

Radio and Electronics: Several pagers and radios need maintenance. Sometimes equipment must be installed or repaired or replaced in the building or trucks.

Medical Aid: Our First Responders and EMTs (Rescue Unit) can't answer medical calls directly, but they respond to medical emergencies when called by CEMS.  They often arrive before the ambulance and give emergency care to the patient.  When the ambulance arrives they assist the paramedics.  If you need an ambulance dial 911.

Auxiliary:  Mainly fundraisers - they hold suppers, to buy firefighting equipment or improvements for the station.  They take food and/or drinks to firefighters at lengthy fires and telephone members 2 or 3 times a year to inform them of coming events and projects. 

Newsletter: This is mailed out in April and October.  Compiled by volunteers and mailed to area residents.  It contains fire and rescue reports, news about past and upcoming events, and general information about the Fire Department.  Your comments are welcome.

Unscheduled Events: Several times a year we have work days for cleaning or repairing the building or firefighting equipment.

Community Room: When not in use for a Fire Department function, the Community Room is available to members at no charge.  Please call the station (443-7802) to reserve a date and time.

By-Laws: To reduce expenses we do not routinely send updated copies of By-Laws to every member.  If you want a copy of the current By-Laws, ask for one at the station.
